Regarding the 000 issue I found an article on iinet that seems to answer that question. Good to know that it will work.
I am still unclear after a support call, but it seems that Voice Mail cannot be disabled. Surely this is not true?

I think a more environmtaly friendly solution for the USB drive for the router may be a USB Key. A powered drive would need to be on all the time, a flash drive will use less power.
